Character Tryout

The original purpose of the playground community was for our players (and/or people who might be interested in playing here someday) to have a place to play with characters they don't have in game. Rather than having a scheduled time for these sorts of posts, we thought it would be more flexible and fun to have it be open-ended so anyone could post anytime they wanted to try out a new character.

In the chat recently someone mentioned that they were interested in doing something like this, so I thought I would put up a post to encourage anyone who was interested to come play. The rules are simple: post a top-level comment with a character you would like to try out. You can play any character you like as long as they aren't currently being played in game and aren't being reserved by someone else. In your comment be sure to include the name of your character and their canon. Then anyone interested in tagging your character can comment to start a conversation.

So, come, post your characters, and have fun!

Or, if nothing else, come tag Cisco, because I'm dying to start getting to write him. ;)

Well. Technically we're on a space station that's on a planet that's in space, but I that's not what you're asking is it?

Dude, if we're on any planet other than Earth, then I'd consider that space.

Though, wait, are you from Earth?

Then space it is.

I'm from New Orleans. But I still come in peace.

Central City, Missouri. Or that's where I was living before this. But Earth either way.

How'd you end up here, man?

::her head tilts as she studies him, gaze narrowing, but only in thought, and her voice is mild, curious, not accusing when she asks:: Are you mad? ::Hatter was mad and he's the only inventing sort that Alice has ever known::

"Mad?" Cisco asked, and the way the girl looked at him, he figured she meant crazy and not angry. "I think I might be. Maybe?" He looked around them, trying not to appear too uncomfortable in her presence.

"Do you know where he are?" he asked carefully, because this didn't look like any place he'd ever been before.

"I know what I have been told, but I have learned not to trust what I am told. And I have not learned anything more for myself."

She tilted her head and studied him a little longer before shrugging. "They call it Sanctuary and I am called Alice. I am Alice, but this place may or may not be a sanctuary."

"It's nice to meet you, Alice," Cisco replied, having to bite his tongue against quoting well, if it isn't the wrong Alice at her. "I'm Cisco Ramon," he told her. "And I'm not sure how I got here, but I don't think it looks much like a sanctuary to me."

He shivered, then, not so much from the cold but from the feeling of uncertainty. "Have you been here long?"

"Time is relative, Mr. Ramon. What seems long to me might not to you, but I've been here two weeks, for the long or short of it." She frowned at herself and then sighed. "I don't mean to sound like a wittering ninny. This makes so little sense it can't be helped."

[cisco_ramon]

"Believe me, I'm used to some pretty strange stuff and this is still way over my head," Cisco replied. "I usually wouldn't consider two weeks to be very long, but it definitely could be if you're stuck in a place you don't understand."

[quitestrange]

"I'm accustomed to being in places I don't understand. It's a commonplace, if you will." Alice crossed her arms, only a little defensively. "This place seems straightforward, which is the essence of the mystery."

Please tell me you recognize me and have a clue about what's going on. Also, hi. Been a while.

[cxavier]

I'm sorry, I don't recognize you. But I can see that you're different, like I am. Have you been here long? Do we meet in the future?

Shit. Well, guess you still have your telepathy working so that's one big plus. A fat one, hopefully. Okay, not going to offer you a hand, but my name's Marie.

And no, I haven't been here long and yes, I guess? Your future.

Marie, it's nice to meet you. I suppose if you know what my powers are, then I don't have to explain how I know about yours. But do know I won't pry into your mind beyond what you're mentally broadcasting.

The year I came here from was 1973. I think perhaps you weren't even born by then.

1973? Fuck. Well, if I ever have to work on American History again ..

Thanks for that. A telepath BFF doesn't mean that you ever get used to someone sitting on your thoughts full time. Have you managed to pick up on anything yet that can explain this situation? Maybe?

It's a matter of morality, and it's never sat well with me, telepaths who invade another's mind without having a very good reason for it. But what I've read off you externally is that you're not afraid, though you're not comfortable here, either. And you're not here by your own choice, just as I'm not. Does that sound correct to you?

Definitely sounds like Charles Xavier to me, so I don't care so much about correct. Did you suss out any brain to hop on for more information yet? Even if it's not that morality friendly right now, I'd love to get a load more clues.

[cxavier]

That is a good point. The bit of searching I've done, however, has lead to thought processes that are most certainly not human, nor mutant. Most of them seem to feel like this place is their home, that they belong here, and that the rest of us are unknowns.

Awesome sauce. But no talk of sacrifices, rituals, cannibalism? Or like, thoughts, you know what I mean. I'm just going through the usual suspects. Zombies, turning us into mythological beings? Mad scientists? Behind it I mean, not to turn us into those.

Not that I've heard so far, no. Most of the populace here is just as confused by our presence here as we are.

Shit doodles. Okay.

Okay, well, want to follow me to my room for some replicated food or drink? Maybe having a telepath around will get me some adventure.

What were you expecting? Have we met before? Perhaps in the future?

I suppose you might be the you in my world, sometime in the future. I hope not, for your sake.

Did something happen to me? Or because of me? You certainly seem frightened of me, which is troubling indeed.

Frightened is the wrong word. Wary, perhaps. Angry, definitely.

In the interests of not screwing up timelines, let's just say that the next time you get the impulse to withhold information or manipulate your students, no matter what your reasoning is, don't do it.

I can't imagine a reason I would do that, even where I came from, but I won't take your advice lightly. I know it won't change what you went through, but I apologize for whatever I did in the timeline you're from.

I was lucky enough not to suffer as a result. I can't say the same for Scott. But since it wasn't you, I don't plan to hold it against you and neither will he. You'll understand, I hope, if I'm not quick to befriend you.
